The museum re-opens

On the 27th of March, 2006, the museum will open under new management.

Wendy McKenzie has now officially taken over the running of the David Coulthard Museum and will open the doors in March this year. As well as access to David's collection of cars, trophies and other memorabilia, there will be hot/cold beverages and a small selection of snacks available in the diner.

  Hi

I was asked to write a few words about the museum and its opening, how I got involved and where it goes from here. Well, here goes …
Last April, I found out that the museum was not going to open. I was devastated. I offered to open the doors on the weekends as I had another job to do during the week. So that was it, I moved in as the weekend lodger.
In August I spoke with David’s dad asking where we would go next year? I decided right there and then that I wanted to move in permanently and run the museum for the sake of the fans, each and every one of us.
So from then on it’s been all systems go — not bad for someone who’s never been in business before.
I am determined to make a success of the chance I have been given by the Coulthard family who have the faith that I can do it.
It’s been a busy winter, not only for me — doing business courses, health and hygiene courses, sourcing out merchandise and getting all the other business items into place so that when we open the doors on March 27 (which of course is also David’s 35th birthday) everything will be up and ready — but also for Mr X and Mark on the website and my family and friends who have had to listen to me ranting and raving.
The plans for the immediate future are simple really: we are going to be open seven days a week from 10am to 4pm, race day parties will be up an running again under the new name of Race Day Brunch Parties which will only be held this year during the European races but hopefully next year we may open early and close late for the far away races if there is a demand.
The museum is looking great. All of David’s trophies are being polished, the cars all have fully blown up tyres and all the other memorabilia from pictures, champagne bottles (unfortunately empty) down to the VIP entrance tags are all waiting and ready for the new and revisiting people to see.
I am looking into doing a few other things at the museum — from alternative race day parties, birthday parties, end of school parties, Christmas parties, anniversary parties — anything is possible. So if you fancy a special day out in a very special place then this is the place come.
I am now almost there: the flyers are being printed as I type and, thanks to the many friends I have made through F1 racing, are going to be posted up and down the country. If you fancy putting some posters up where you live, I should be delighted to send you some if you e-mail me your address.
Bookings are starting to come in from the UK and abroad. I’m almost ready to hand in my notice at my other job so I can concentrate fully on the museum. Things are looking OK so far.
As for the future, I hope that I will be here for a long, long time and Our David will continue racing for years yet and have a very successful and enjoyable time doing it.

Hope to meet all of you in the near future

With very best wishes

Wendy
