BEEP BEEP BEEP!!!! That horrid noise blaring in my ears from two alarm clocks. Why the hell am I getting up at 3:15 in the morning, I must be mad. Then of course I rejoin the land of the living and realise exactly why I’m getting up at this ridiculous hour. Finally the day has arrived and I’m off to Silverstone!!!! Of course according to Wendy I’ve actually been waiting there for two weeks after walking there but after a slight complication we’re finally off. The four (Sonia, Lynsay, Lewis and Myself) of us are off. After picking up a few more at McDonalds, the rest at Aldi’s we stopped off at Annan for the second bus driver and a bit more juice for the bus we were properly off on the long road to Silverstone.
After about five and a half hours and a few pee/fag/munchie stops we arrived at Silverstone at about a quarter to eleven. Most of us went off to the stalls outside the main grandstand to get a few ‘refreshments’ whilst Wendy and Lynsay went off to try and get a hold off the main man himself. When they returned we went off the grandstand to try and get our seats. After about half an hour’s wait David roared out of the pit lane for a demonstration in his Red Bull. With me only going to 1 GP when I was younger I had no idea of the sheer noise these machines made. PHOWAR!!!!! The roar it made coming out of Luffield and onto the main straight made managed to make it all the way into my stomach. Followed by the 1978 Arrows A1 as driven originally by Riccardo Patrese wet my appetite for the main event.
After waiting quite a while the celebrities and their cars made it onto the grid along with DC, Eddie and Tamara’s daddy, The ‘big’ man himself Bernie Ecclestone. Myself and Alan headed on down to the front of the grandstand to get a decent view of the action. Melissa Joan Hart managed to keep the lead at the front from Jenny Frost, however from the back of the grid Gary Numan and Brian Johnson were storming up and by the time they came back round to complete the first lap they managed to get into 1st and 2nd respectively. It appeared that both Ms Dynamite and Nigel Benn must have spun as they came trailing quite a fair bit away from the rest of the pack. This would become a problem a few laps later. Whilst lapping Dynamite Johnson gave her nudge and sent her careering into the barrier at about 100mph. Seeing a motor racing crash for the first time was so exciting.
Whilst the she was being tended to and the wreckage cleared Me and Alan headed on down to Stowe to get the best view as possible of the racing. However, it was at that the sun went in and it started to get very chilly. Alan had to return to the grandstand after a while after all he was in a kilt, now that must have been cold!!! However I stayed down at Copse and managed to get some great videos of the celebrities. After a few laps I got a phone call form Wendy asking me to come back to the grandstand. It was then when she asked me if I wanted to go and meet the man himself at his motor home. It didn’t take me that long to answer that question. I finished off watching the race in the grandstand cheering on Melissa and Jenny mainly to try and get them to push the men into a mistake but sadly fir the ladies they couldn’t manage it.
As soon as the race finished me and Wendy headed straight to the grounds of the BRDC where his motor home was parked. Once we got there it was rather a long wait for him to get from the podium celebration to the motor home. But boy was it owrth the wait. Getting to meet him was absolutely awesome! He is such a nice guy, he was so nice to me and was even nice enough to sign my ticket and wristband. Once he zoomed away in his Mercedes to get the plane to Belgium to see Karen me and Wendy headed off back to the bus and back on the journey to Twynholm
First of all I’d like to say thanks to Wendy for the great day. She gave me one of the best days of my life and I’ll be forever grateful. Thanks to everyone as well to everyone who went on the trip for making it such an amazing day, especially Alan for sticking with me down at Stowe. And of course thanks to David for taking time out to meet me. It was truly a great day that I will never forget. Thanks everyone!
